...It Feels Great to be Kneaded

“Massage therapy is non-invasive, inexpensive, comforting, free of side effects and greatly appreciated by recipients.” Barrie R. Cassileth, Ph.D

What is Oncology Massage?

Oncology Massage is specifically designed for people living with cancer, including those who are in treatment or have recently completed treatment or are in palliative care. Each session is tailored to you and modified to the signs, symptoms, and complications that chemotherapy and/or radiation can cause.
I integrate Eastern bodywork along with massage techniques to help ease symptoms of cancer treatments, such as pain and anxiety, which are just some of the side effects from chemotherapy or radiation. Some patients have reported improved immune function, decreased stress, and improved sleep from massage.
How is Oncology Massage different?

It begins with a thorough intake session to see if you have medical devices, surgical and/or radiation sites, lymph node removal, and blood count issues that require adjustments. Massage sessions may vary with each visit depending how you are feeling that particular day. After the intake, gentle, non-invasive modalities are incorporated to enhance your healing process. I am mindful about the pressure and duration of your massage so not to be over-demanding to your body. It is sometimes better to receive shorter, more frequent massage treatments.
I use Swedish massage as the basis of my bodywork sessions with reflexology, acupressure points, and heated stones integrated in. Ayurvedic healing oils such as Sesame and Mahanarayan are used to nourish the body. Your choice of music, sound healing or guided imagery can be part of the session.
Reflexology

Reflexology originated over 5,000 years ago. Through applied pressure, the therapist can stimulate a point to release blockage around the corresponding body part and rebalance the body. Reflex locations and relationships to each other follow an anatomical guide that closely resembles that of the body itself.
Acupressure

Acupressure is an ancient healing art using gentle finger pressure on certain points on the body to stimulate the body's natural abilities to aid in healing. This helps with relieving pain, nausea, fatigue and calming the mind. Heated stones help boost the effectiveness of the point work.

“When the breath is irregular, the mind is also unsteady, but when the breath is still, so is the mind” The Hathayogapradipika

Breathe Away Stress
We all breathe, automatically – but simply spending a few minutes quietly “breathing well” can relax us and relieve stress. Sit comfortably with a straight back – to allow lungs and diaphragm full movement – and breathe slowly and rhythmically, focusing on each
in – breath
and
out – breath.
